HIGHLIGHTS

  • CSOs are crucial to the HIV response in the Dominican Republic, but many rely on donor support
  • Processes for CSOs to access public funding are unclear and complex
  • Aceso Global mapped all public funding options and developed accompanying guidelines to facilitate CSO applications for public funding

As part of ongoing efforts to improve the sustainability of the national HIV response in the Dominican Republic, Aceso Global worked with civil society organizations (CSOs) involved in the HIV response to develop guidelines and training materials to bolster their ability to compete for domestic public grants and other funding opportunities. The Aceso Global team mapped all public funding options available to CSOs, accompanied by guidelines and training materials to guide CSOs through the application processes. Aceso Global then identified gaps in CSO capacity – such as financial management, proposal writing and project evaluation – to be addressed through future trainings. Together, this work is supporting CSOs’ transition from being passive recipients of donor funds to active promoters who can effectively market their services to government and other sources of support.
