Matthias Loening has broad experience in the health sector with particular focus on private health investment in emerging markets. He has held senior positions across major international financial institutions with responsibility for transaction support, analytical work and policy implementation. For over 10 years, he has acted as the Senior Advisor for the Health Sector at the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), where he supports EBRD in building up a health investment practice and represents the Bank on important international health policy issues. He has supported over 50 signed projects with an investment value of over $800 million, covering health segments such as healthcare services, med tech, pharma, biotech and infrastructure PPPs. Dr. Loening was also the Senior Advisor/Health Care Specialist to the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the World Bank for over 10 years, supporting the Bank’s efforts to scale up private sector engagement in health. Dr. Loening has worked in over 50 countries during his career. He received a BA in Political Science from the University of Iowa, an MHA from the University of Iowa, an MA from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a PhD from the London School of Economics.
